Samuel Bone was born at Edmonton, London, and enlisted into the 24th Foot at Queen’s Square, Middlesex, on 9 March 1844, aged 22. He served with the 24th Foot in the Punjab campaign of 1848-49, and was present at the battles of Chilianwala and Goojerat. The casualty returns show him as having been wounded at Chilianwala. He was discharged at Curragh Camp on 25 April 1866, at his own request Free, with pension after 21 years service. He died on 24 September 1881, aged 56, and was interred at the Great Northern Cemetery, Southgate.
