Italy, John VIII Palaeologus, c.1438, a bronze medal by Pisanello, bust right in tall hat, rev. Emperor riding right [towards Ferrara] and acknowledging a highway cross, mounted page behind, OPVS PISANI PICTORIS, 97mm, edge stamped 118 (cf. Kress 1); Domenico Novello Malatesta, Lord of Cesena, c.1445, a bronze medal by Pisanello, bust left, rev. the armoured Malatesta kneels before a wayside cross, his horse stands to the left, 78mm, edge stamped 117 (cf. Kress 15) [2]. Good quality early 20th century copies by the Monnaie de Paris, very fine (£60-80)
