Faustina Junior (d. 175), Aureus, 149-52, Rome, stolate bust right, hair drawn back up at neck and swept back from brow, decorated with bangs and four heavy waves, secured by rope of pearls ending in four coils around chignon, favstinae avg p ii avg fil, rev. venvs, Venus standing left, holding apple and rudder, 7.16g (RIC 517a; BMC 1063; C –). Good very fine; a very elegant and intricate portrait style, very rare (£1,400-1,600)
