Roman Republic, M. Aemilius Scaurus and P. Plautius Hypsæus, Denarius, 58 BC, King Aretas of Nabatea kneeling beside camel, rev. Jupiter in quadriga left, scorpion below horses, 3.77g (Craw. 422/1b; Sear 379). Some weakness in reverse legend, otherwise very fine (£40-50)

The obverse type commemorates the surrender in 62 BC of Aretas III, King of the Nabatean Arabs, to Aemilius Scaurus, and is the first instance of a moneyer publicizing an event from his own career on the coinage
