A good Great War ‘Western Front’ M.M. group of four awarded to Lance-Corporal R. H. Ribton, 18th Canadian Infantry, subsequently died of wounds in July 1917

M.M. London Gazette 19 December 1916. The recommendation states ‘For gallantry and devotion to duty in operating the telephone in the front line and maintaining communication to Battalion H.Q. He was in an extremely dangerous position and remained at his post when the entire remainder of the trench was blown in and demolished by heavy artillery fire.’

Reginald Heber Ribton died of wounds in France and Flanders on 9 July 1917 whilst serving with the 18th Battalion, Canadian Infantry. These wounds were received earlier on the same day when an enemy shell burst in his billet. He is buried at Villers Station Cemetery, Viller-Au-Bois, France.
