Sir Humphrey Mackworth, Bart. was commissioned into the Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment on 11 May 1891. During the Boer War he served with the 38th Company, Imperial Yeomanry, transferring to the Royal Monmouth Royal Engineeers in December 1904. He stayed with this unit until the outbreak of the Great War when, in September 1915 he was appointed as Assistant Superintendent in the Remount Service. His first wife, Lady Mackworth survived the sinking of the Lusitania, and a copy of an account of this incident, written by her is included with the lot. Sold with comprehensive copied research detail, including a photograph of recipient.
