Francis Morgan Bryant was born on 18 March 1859. He served on the Staff of Royal Commissions for: Philadelphia International Exhibition 1875-76; Paris Universal Exhibition 1877-78, as private secretary to Sir P. Cunliffe-Owen; Melbourne International Exhibition 1879-81; Secretary to the Comptroller and Treasurer, Marlborough House, 1881-1901; Chief Clerk to Edward Prince of Wales, 1893-1901; Assistant Secretary to His Majesty’s Privy Purse, 1901-10; Secretary of the King’s Private Secretary’s Office, 1910-31; Registrar of the Royal Victorian Order, 1916-31; Sergeant-at-Arms in Ordinary to His Majesty, 1922-31.

Bryant was made M.V.O., 4th class, 1901; I.S.O. 1916; C.B.E. 1918; C.V.O. 1922; C.B. 1931. On the creation of the office of Registrar of the Royal Victorian Order in 1916, Bryant was chosen to fill the new vacancy. He was Knighted in 1920, and received the French Order of Palmes Academique in 1878; Legion of Honour 1927; Commander of the Order of the Nile 1927; Knight Commander of the Order of Astaur 1928. He was father of Sir Arthur Bryant, C.H., C.B.E., the eminent English historian, and died on 30 August 1938.
