M.M. London Gazette 30 October 1917. (64th Heavy Artillery Group Signal Sub Section).

The following is transcribed from the typescript letter written by Corporal Brailsford’s C.O., two copies of which are included with the lot: ‘Your son has no doubt informed you that the Corps Commander has awarded him the Military Medal, and I should like to tell you what splendid services he has rendered during the Somme battles, the fights on Vimy Ridge, and particularly in the operations of this month.

On the night of the 15th he repaired faults on lines in the face of very heavy gas and high explosive shell fire, continuing his work when other men had taken refuge in gas-proof dug-outs. I have always found him most willing to go out on duties although the dangers are often very great, and throughout he has displayed a most commendable devotion to the cause for which we are fighting.’, dated 30 August 1917.
