A Second World War D.S.M. pair awarded to Chief Petty Officer J. H. Davidson, Royal Navy, H.M. Submarine H-49

Distinguished Service Medal, G.VI.R. (J.108151 C.P.O. R.N.); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.VI.R., 1st issue (J.108151 C.P.O. H.M.S. Dolphin) light scuff marks overall, therefore very fine (2) £1000-1200

D.S.M. London Gazette 3 December 1940: James Henry Davidson, C.P.O. ‘For courage and resource during successful patrols by H.M. Submarines.’

Seedies roll states that the award was for an attack by H.M. Submarine
H-49 on a large enemy convoy on 16 September 1940. Chief Petty Officer Davidson was killed on 18 October 1940 when H-49 was sunk near Terschelling by the German submarine-chasers UJ-116 and UJ-118 under Lt-Cdr. Kaden. Sold with copies of the official Patrol Report.
