Distinguished Service Order, G.V.R.; Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 5 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (Lieut., Rl. Scots); 1914-15 Star (Capt., R. Scots); British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaf (Lt. Col.) mounted as worn, generally good very fine (5) £700-900

Served in South Africa 1901-02, as Assistant Press Censor from 6 October 1901; operations in the Transvaal, March 1901 to April 1902; operations in the Orange River Colony, March 1901; operations in Cape Colony, February to March 1901 (Queen’s Medal with 5 clasps).

Served during the Great War as Adjutant, 1/4th Bn. West Riding Regiment (T.F.) to 18 August 1915. Afterwards on the Staff and later in command of 1/5th Bn. West Riding Regiment (T.F.) from 7 June 1916. France and Belgium from 14 April 1915 to 14 March 1917, including battles of the Somme and Ypres Salient, severely wounded.
