Distinguished Service Order, G.V.R.; The Order of the British Empire, O.B.E. (Military) 1st type; India General Service 1895-1902, 1 clasp, Punjab Frontier 1897-98 (Vety. Lieut., A.V.D.); 1914-15 Star (Lt. Col., A.V.C.); British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaf (Lt. Col.) mounted as worn, some chips to green enamel wreaths of the first, otherwise generally good very fine (6) £1000-1200

William Allan McDougall was born on 5 June 1868, and educated at The Nest Academy, Jedburgh, and New Veterinary College, Edinburgh. He was appointed to a commission in the Army Veterinary Department in June 1893, and served on the North West Frontier of India 1897-98, Malakand, as Veterinary Officer, Base and Lines of Communication; Buner; attack and capture of the Buner Pass; Veterinary Officer, 1st Brigade (Medal and clasp). He retired in September 1913 but was mobilised with 46th (North Midland) Division T.F., as Assistant Director of Veterinary Services, on the outbreak of war. He served continuously with this Corps in France and Belgium from February 1915 until June 1917, when he was appointed A.D.V.S. to I Corps, with whom he served in France until the end of the war.
