Wentworth Edward Dallas Campbell was born on 6 March 1887, and was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Highlanders on 29 August 1906. He became Lieutenant in November 1908 and joined the Indian Army in September 1909. He served with the 34th (Poona) Horse in France from 24 August 1914 until March 1918. He was promoted to Captain in August 1915, served in South Persia 1919-20, and in Waziristan 1921-24. Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel, May to October 1921; Major August 1921. Major Campbell was an Instructor at the Equitation School, India, from August 1926 to June 1928.
