Alfred Perry was born at Gosfield, Halstead, Essex, and served with the 3rd Battalion in South Africa. He landed with the 2nd Battalion in France on 23 August, and was killed in action on the 26th August 1914, at Le Cateau, the first day that the battalion saw action in the Great War. He is buried in Esnes Communal Cemetery, Nord, France.
