John George Liversidge was an Instructor in Applied Mechanics at the Royal Naval College in 1890, in the rank of Engineer, and during his career he passed a special course at the Royal School of Naval Architecture, and the Royal Naval College, Greenwich. He was Chief Engineer of Naiad during the South African War and Deputy Director of Warship Production during the Great War, being promoted to Engineer Admiral on 20 August 1918.
