Three: Colour-Sergeant Robert Grayston, 32nd Light Infantry, severely wounded at the battle of Chinhut in 1857

Robert Grayston was born in the Parish of Burgh, near Woodbridge, Suffolk, and attested for the 21st Regiment at Ipswich on 22 November 1841. He volunteered for the 32nd Foot in November 1847 and served in the 1st and 2nd siege operations against Mooltan in 1848-49, and at the battle of Goojerat on 25 February 1849 (Medal and 2 clasps); served in the Defence of the Residency of Lucknow from 30 June to 22 November 1857; battle of Cawnpore on 6 December 1857, also throughout the subsequent campaign for the reduction of Oudh in 1858-59. He was severely wounded in the right leg at Chinhut on 30 June 1857 (Medal and clasp). He was discharged in February 1862, and although not noted on his papers, had also served on the North West Frontier in the operations under Sir Colin Campbell in 1852. His name appears on the medal roll for this campaign but the medals were not issued until 1872, some 10 years after his final discharge. Sold with verification and copy discharge papers.
