M.M. London Gazette 7 December 1944:

‘Sgt Shaw was commanding a Section which on the night 22 January 1944 was carrying ammunition from a dump NW of Mignano, three miles through a valley to Mount Cedro newly occupied by our troops. The valley was continually shelled. Encouraged by his leadership and excellent example, Sgt Shaw’s Section carried three loads during the night, marching over 18 miles of rough ground made very bad by heavy rain.’
