Waterloo 1815 (Samuel Sweet, 1st Batt. 40th Reg. Foot) fitted with original steel clip and later ring suspension, nearly very fine £600-800

Samuel Sweet was born in Totnes, Devon, and enlisted on 25 July 1799. He served with the regiment in the expedition to Monte Video and Buenos Ayres in 1807, and subsequently throughout the campaign in the Peninsula, in North America, and at the battle of Waterloo. He was discharged on 17 December 1816, in consequence of “being aged and infirm.” He lived to claim the M.G.S. medal with 10 clasps for Roleia, Vimiera, Talavera, Busaco, Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, and Nive.
