Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Algiers (C. H. Baker, Midshipman) together with the James Watt Silver Medal (First Class) of the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society (To Captain Baker R.N. for Naval Architecture, 1854) nearly extremely fine (2) £500-600

Charles Henry Baker entered the Navy on 1 May 1810, and served as Midshipman on H.M.S. Albion at the battle of Algiers. He passed for Lieutenant in 1817, but was not promoted until 1827, and served as First Lieutenant of Meteor at the Blockade of Tangiers. He later served on the Asia and Samarang before transferring to the Coast Guard at Sennen Cove in March 1833. Between 1839 and 1848 he commanded the Revenue Cutters Fox, Stork, Harpy and Vulcan. He was promoted to Commander in January 1848, and to Captain, half-pay, in August 1860. Sold with full research.
