Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (4185 Drumr. I. Mitchener, Suff. R.) ‘u’ of ‘Suff’ inverted, very fine £90-120

John Mitchener was born in Gibraltar. He attested for General Service at Winchester on 19 October 1877, aged 14 years. Ranked as a Boy he was posted to the Rifle Brigade and was ranked as a Private in October 1880. Appointed a Bandsman in October 1882. Transferred as a Bugler/Drummer to the 4th Battalion Suffolk Regiment in March 1895. Transferred as a Drummer in the 3rd Battalion Hampshire Regiment in June 1898. Served in India, September 1879-December 1888 and Burma, December 1888-January 1890. Served in the Waziri Expedition 1881. Discharged having given notice on 28 February 1901. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. by A.O. 1 April 1896 - this being his only medallic award. With copied service papers.
