Edith Patricia Meikle served as a nurse at the Royal Bethlem Hospital in London 1905-12, where her brother, was a student house physician. She first went to France in April 1915 as a Matron in the employ of the British Committee of the French Red Cross and subsequently served as a Matron in the Voluntary Aid Detachment (British Red Cross and Order of St. John), including further postings in France and Belgium in the period September 1917 to March 1918, among them service as a Matron for the Belgian Field Hospital at Hoogstadt; sold with copied research, including a picture of Meikle wearing a Belgian decoration.
