1914-15 Star (1089 Pte. M. Davis, 14 Bn. A.I.F.), good very fine £60-80

Maurice Davis enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force in October 1914 and was drafted to the 14th Battalion, A.I.F., so he was likely a native of Melbourne. The battalion formed part of 4th Brigade under Colonel John Monash during the Gallipoli operations and first came ashore at the memorable landings at ANZAC Cove on 25 April 1915. Of subsequent events, perhaps most notable was the Turkish counter-attack on 19 May, when Lance-Corporal Albert Jacka of the 14th won the A.I.F’s first Victoria Cross. For his own part, Davis was discharged on 23 July 1915, either as a result of wounds or illness.
