Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (Capt. C. A. M. Howard, W. India Rgt.), good very fine and scarce £180-220

Charles Archibald Montgomery Howard was born in March 1875, the son of Sir O. H. Howard of Chattenden Farm, Rochester, and was educated at Eton. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion, East Surrey Regiment in December 1892, he gained a regular army commission in the 14th Hussars in March 1897 but transferred to the 3rd West India Regiment in the following year. He subsequently served on the Staff in Cape Colony during the Boer War (Medal & clasp) and was afterwards employed as an Assistant Resident in Northern Nigeria 1904-5. Howard transferred to the 1st Battalion, South Staffordshire in May 1908 and was placed on the Reserve of Officers in March 1910; sold with brief copied research, including medal roll verification for the above Medal with ‘Cape Colony’ clasp; he does not appear to be entitled to the dated clasps.
