Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 1 clasp, Alexandria 11th July (F. Hansford, Ord., H.M.S. “Monarch”) light pitting, nearly very fine £100-140

Fred Hansford was born in Puckknowle, Dorset on 16 September 1863. He entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in September 1879 and was advanced to Boy 1st Class in September 1880. Promoted to Ordinary Seaman when on H.M.S. Boscawen, in September 1881. Served on H.M.S. Monarch, January 1882-July 1883, seeing action at the bombardment of Alexandria. Promoted to Able Seaman in October 1885 when on H.M.S. Raleigh. Discharged in September 1891. With copied service paper which record him several times running foul of authority.
