The Indian Mutiny Medal awarded to Bugler William Ward, 52nd Light Infantry, who was dangerously wounded at Delhi, 14 September 1857

William Ward was born in Lakenham, Norwich. A Wool Comber by occupation, he attested for the 52nd Regiment at Norwich on 19 June 1843, aged 19 years, 10 months. Appointed a Bugler in June 1845. With the 52nd L.I. he served 2 years 2 months in North America and 5 years 7 months in the East Indies. Being present at Delhi during the suppression of the Indian Mutiny, he was dangerously wounded in the left groin by a musket ball, 14 September 1857. As a result of his wound he was invalided to England and was discharged being unfit for further service on 23 January 1860. He died in Bradford, West Yorkshire on 19 September 1885. With copied service papers and death certificate.
