New Zealand 1845-66, reverse dated 1863 to 1865 (636 Thos. Fielder, 70th Regt.), officially impressed naming, edge bruise and a little polished, nearly very fine £360-380

Thomas Fielder was born in Godalming, Surrey and enlisted in the 70th Regiment in May 1859. He subsequently witnessed active service in New Zealand in the period 1863-65, when he was present in the engagements at Koheroa, Rangiriri and Orakau, in addition to accompanying the small force sent to relieve the colonial troops at Pukekohe East after their stockade had been attacked on 14 September 1863; an action considered by some historians as ‘New Zealand’s Rorke’s Drift’. Fielder was embarked for the U.K. in early 1866; sold with copied muster details.
