Francis Bridle (note: ‘Bride’ on medal) was born in Portsea, Hampshire, on 5 November 1819. First entered the Royal Navy in March 1832. Served as an Able Seaman on H.M.S.
Magicienne in the operations on and off the coast of Syria 1840. Later served in the Second China War as Gunner’s Mate on H.M.S. Nankin, being awarded the China Medal with clasps for Fatchan 1857 and Canton 1857. With copied service papers.
