Z.A.R. (South African Republic) Artillery and Cavalry Badges, a framed collection of some very fine and rare examples comprising an officer’s white metal helmet plate in two parts being an eight pointed star mounted with the standard regalia of the Republic, a rare variant as the wagon on the central oval has two shafts (Owen 1988), an officer’s gilt helmet plate of two part construction a slightly smaller eight pointed star again with standard regalia mount c. 1874-1901 (Owen 2000), a two part Artillery shako badge in gilt brass similar format to the preceding item but smaller c. 1874-1901 (Owen 1995) (small repairs to two star ray finials), a gilt brass pouch badge being script ‘AR’ cypher also worn on the Field Service helmet prior to 1902 (Owen 1994), an Artillery cap badge worn prior to 1901 appears to be in die cast pewter similar to Owen 2006, another similar in brass (Owen 2006), a heavy cast brass Martingale badge (Owen 2005); a Krugersdorp Vrywilliger Cavalry Corps slouch hat badge 1894-1899 in die cast (?) pewter (Owen 2040), a Johannesburg Vrywilliger Corps Martingale badge in cast brass 1896-1899 (Owen 2012), an officer’s very rare silver plated slouch hat badge to the Johannesburg Vrywilliger Corps 1893-1899 (Owen 2043); a most rare silver plated sabretache badge to the Johnannesburg Vrywilliger Corps 1894-1899 (skull and crossbones format) two screw post fasteners (Owen 2038) thought to be only one of four in existence. A Police helmet plate in white metal worn prior to 1901 (Owen 1998), a brass cap badge worn prior to 1902 by European Police members (Owen 1991), very good overall condition with most fasteners in evidence (13) £1200-1500
