Shropshire Yeomanry Officer’s 1871 Pattern Helmet, a superb example, the German silver skull overlaid with gilt brass laurel and oak spray trim, gilt brass plume holder and quadrant, gilt brass leather lined chin chain and rose pattern side ornaments, the very fine helmet plate displays St. Edward’s crown over a rococo shield in gilt, this with two overlays - the first being a beaded silver star, the second a gilt oval strap ‘Shropshire Yeomanry’ enclosing three logger-heads. The peaks lined with green and brown skiver, brown leather sweat band with attached crimson silk lining, the helmet complete with chamois leather cover, the plume of white over red horse hair complete with gilt rose finial (c1909-14). The japanned helmet tin unnamed but with remnants of railway luggage labels, the plume tin with a ‘Parcel Post’ label issued at Whitchurch, Shropshire dated (ominously) ‘Au 14’, the helmet and plume in overall excellent condition, both tins with some surface rust and loss of japanning (3) £1400-1800
