The Manchester Regiment 4th Reserve Battalion Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet and Tin Named to Edward George Villiers Stanley, 17th Earl of Derby 1908-14, an extremely fine blue cloth example complete with all gilt metal fittings, the helmet plate of crowned eight pointed star pattern with laurel and Garter overlays, in the centre the arms of the city of Manchester in silver and a silver scroll below ‘The Manchester Regiment’, internally in excellent condition and retailed by F.W.Flight, Winchester and Aldershot; the helmet tin with brass plaque ‘Colonel Earl of Derby, The Manchester Regt’, excellent overall condition £600-800

Note: 17th Earl of Derby 1865 - 1948 succeeded in 1908, hitherto Lord Stanley. 1902 Hon. Colonel 6th Battalion the Manchester Regiment (a regular battalion 1900-1902 S.A. War), 1908 Hon. Colonel 4th Reserve Battalion Manchester Regiment. KG.GCB.GCVO.TD.PC. Lord Mayor Liverpool, instigated the Derby Scheme WW1, raised the two battalions of the Liverpool Pals. Secretary of State for War 1916-1918 and again 1922-24.
