A good 1887 pattern heavy cavalry officer’s patent-tang sword for John Vaughan, 7th. Queen’s Own Hussars, who rode in the charge at Omdurman, the 87cm blade by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, (No. 30719 for 1891) back-edged and spear-pointed, etched with crowned entwined VR cypher, regimental badge and motto of the 7th. Queen’s Own Hussars, owner’s initials within a cartouche ‘J.V.’ and within a separate cartouche a crowned Prince of Wales’ feathers and ‘X.R.H. 1891-1920’, all within foliate strap-work panels, regulation steel scroll guard, fully chequered back-strap and pommel, solid-patent tang, vulcanized grips bound with silver wire, complete with its Sam Browne field service scabbard, covered with brown leather, some service wear and neat repair to scabbard leather otherwise good condition £550-650
