Tom Ward was born in Pendleton, Salford in September 1880. A Bricklayer by occupation, he enlisted into the Manchester Regiment in 1914. With the 20th (5th City) ‘Pals’ Battalion he served in France/Flanders and was awarded the M.M. for bravery in the field. He was killed in action on 4 October 1918, aged 38 years, during the battalion’s attack on Ponchaux and Beaurevoir. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial. He was the husband of Alice Ward, of 2 Tysoe Street, Pendleton, Manchester. With copied research.
