David Nicholls was born in Lower Harpton, Hereford; lived in New Radnor and enlisted at Walton. Serving in the 4th Battalion South Wales Borderers, he died of wounds in Mesopotamia on 14 February 1917. He was buried in the Amara War Cemetery.

With original commemorative scroll and copied research - includes a copied photograph of Captain Angus Buchanan, V.C., M.C., 4th Battalion South Wales Borderers - who won the V.C. for rescuing wounded men in Mesopotamia, 5 April 1916.
