William Webb was born in the Parish of Laycock, near Devizes, Wiltshire, and was enlisted for the 28th Foot at Fermoy, County Cork, on 21 March 1804, aged twenty-six years. He served with the 28th in the Peninsula and later claimed the M.G.S. medal with clasps for Corunna, Barrosa, Vittoria and Pyrenees. He was discharged on 11 May 1824, in consequence of ‘being worn out in the service’, which totalled 22 years 189 days, including 137 days with the Army of Reserve, August to December 1803, and 2 years for Waterloo. Sold with copied discharge papers.
