Three: Sergeant I. E. Laughlin, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who was killed in action serving as a W./Op./Air Gunner in No. 10 Squadron in a strike on Essen in March 1944

1939-45 Star; Air Crew Europe Star; War Medal 1939-45, together with the recipient’s original Air Ministry condolence slip in the name of ‘Sergeant I. E. Laughlin’, the second cleaned with consequent loss of patina, otherwise good very fine (3) £240-280

Ivor Eugene Laughlin was killed in action on 27 March 1944, when his Halifax of No. 10 Squadron was downed by flak or a night fighter during a sortie to Essen. Two members of his crew - Sergeant W. W. Formile and Flight Sergeant R. C. Corby - survived and evaded capture. He was 21 years old and the son of Albert Cornelius and Hattie Laughlin and left a widow, Glenys Blodwen Laughlin of Wanstead, Essex. He is buried in Hotton War Cemetery, Belgium.
