George Gordon was born in Birkenhead. Employed as a Porter with the Mersey Railway, he enlisted at Birkenhead. Serving with the 6th Battalion South Lancashire Regiment, he entered the Balkan theatre of war on 1 July 1915. He was reported ‘missing in action’, later killed in action in Gallipoli on 10 August 1915, aged 22 years. His name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. With copied research including a photocopy of a newspaper report of his death which includes his photograph.
