Three: Private E. Lowe, 1st Auckland Regiment, who was evacuated from Gallipoli suffering from concussion and wounded by shrapnel in France in June 1917

1914-15 Star (12/2166 Pte. E. Lowe, N.Z.E.F.); British War and Victory Medals (12/2166 Pte. E. Lowe, N.Z.E.F.), polished, nearly very fine or better (3) £100-120

Ernest Lowe, who was born in Cheshire, England in April 1891, was employed as a policeman at the time of his enlistment in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in December 1914. Posted to the 1st Battalion, Auckland Regiment, he was present in operations in Gallipoli in the period May-August 1915, but was evacuated to Malta suffering from concussion and debility in the latter month. His treatment having been continued in England, he was posted to a Reserve Battalion but, in March 1917, he was embarked for France, where he was wounded in the thigh by shrapnel on 23 June 1917. He was evacuated to England but appears to have rejoined his unit in the Field towards the end of 1918. He was discharged at Wellington in May 1919; sold with copied service record.
