John Knights was born in Blackburn, Lancashire, lived at Attleborough, Norfolk and enlisted at Blackburn. Serving in the 1st/4th Battalion East Lancashire Regiment, he entered the Balkan theatre of war on 9 May 1915. Believed to have been fatally wounded at Krithia Vineyard, Gallipoli on 9 August 1915, he died of his wounds on 10 August 1915, aged 24 years. His name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial.
