Four: Lieutenant K. W. Newall, Royal Navy, a recipient of the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun

Keith William Newall entered the Royal Navy as a Cadet around 1910 and first went to sea as a Midshipman in the battleship H.M.S. Duncan in 1912. An Acting Sub. Lieutenant in the cruiser Minotaur by the outbreak of hostilities in August 1914, he removed to the torpedo boat destroyer Foxhound in January 1915, the first of several such ship appointments held by him in the Great War. Thus the Chelmer from January 1916, the Alarm from August 1916, the Porpoise from November 1916 and the Violent from October 1917. He also served for a brief period in the cruiser Grafton in 1916. Newall was demobilised in August 1919 and was awarded the 5th Class of the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun (London Gazette 8 March 1920, refers).
