Francis Stevenson was born in Falkirk, Stirlingshire and enlisted at Linlithgow, Linlithgowshire. Served as a Drummer in the 1st Battalion Seaforth Highlanders on the N.W. Frontier of India 1908. Awarded the Delhi Durbar Medal in 1911 as a Lance-Corporal. As a Corporal in the 1st Battalion he entered France/Flanders on 12 October 1914. As a Sergeant he was killed in action, at Neuve Chapelle, 11 March 1915. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial.
