Frederick Hussey originally attested for the Leicestershire Regiment in September 1886 and served with the regiment in Halifax, Bermuda and the West Indies before being placed on the Army Reserve in March 1894. With the advent of hostilities in South Africa, he was recalled to the Colours and posted to the 5th (Militia) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, but it was in the 2nd Battalion that he went on to witness active service in the relief of Ladysmith operations.

Having then been discharged on his return from South Africa in 1902, Hussey re-enlisted in September 1914, when he joined the 12th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, in which unit he was embarked for France in August 1915 and gained advancement to Lance-Sergeant. Posted back to the home establishment in November of the same year - his service record notes that he was gassed and suffered from tench fever - he reverted to the rank of Corporal and served in the 16th and 22nd Battalions. In February 1919, he volunteered for one year with the Army of Occupation and was transferred to the 2/4th Battalion, West Riding Regiment, in which unit he attained the temporary rank of Sergeant before being discharged in May 1920. He died at Morden, Surrey in November 1942; sold with copied service and pension records.
