Lionel Hugo Thornley Friederichs was born in London in 1874, the son of a German Merchant, Ferdinand Friedrichs. As a 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th (Militia) Battalion Cheshire Regiment, he was promoted to Lieutenant in July 1900 (London Gazette 28 August 1900) and Captain in January 1902 (London Gazette 4 February 1902). For his services in the Boer War he was mentioned in Lord Kitchener’s despatches (London Gazette 29 July 1902). In March 1915 Friederichs was appointed a Temporary Captain in the 4th Battalion Cheshire Regiment (Militia) (London Gazette 9 April 1915) but appears not to have served overseas. In 1919 he was appointed a Railway Transport Officer (London Gazette 7 April 1919). He relinquished his commission during the following year (London Gazette 23 August 1920). In 1921 he sailed from Liverpool to Quebec on the Empress of France intending to permanently reside in Canada. He died in Hythe, Kent in 1962. With copied research.
