A Great War M.M. awarded to Corporal H. Parrott, 212 Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery

Military Medal, G.V.R. (112277 Cpl., 212/Sge. By. R.G.A.) good very fine £160-200

M.M. London Gazette 16 July 1918.

Herbert Parrott was born in Dukinfield a town in Thameside, Greater Manchester, the son of John Parrott. On 7 June 1913, aged 25 years, in St Peter’s Church Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire he married Gertrude Ashton.

Serving with 212 Siege Battery R.G.A., Corporal Herbert Parrott won the Military Medal, most probably for service during the battles resulting from the German Spring Offensive of 1918. The German assault overran the front line and many artillery batteries became exposed and involved in fierce fighting.

Pilot Officer Herbert Parrott, the son of Herbert and Gertrude, was air gunner in 619 Bomber Squadron, and was shot down and killed on 26 June 1944. He is buried in the Choloy War Cemetery on the Moselle.
