D.C.M. London Gazette 15 March 1916. ‘For consistent and conspicuous gallantry. He has constantly volunteered for and successfully carried out rescue work under most dangerous circumstances.’

With a hand-written message of congratulations from the Captain and Adjutant, 1st Coldstream Guards, ‘Many congratulations on your getting the D.C.M. You earned it a hundred times over at Loos.
