The group of medals in this and the following 27 lots was collected before the Second World War and it is thought that the medals were manufactured during the 1930s. They are of extremely high quality and obviously made with no intention to deceive (generally they are some 10% smaller than originals). All are well patinated – indeed, this is a feature – making them attractive cabinet pieces. The current Pisanello exhibition at the National Gallery makes them very relevant. It is believed they were made at the Monnaie de Paris
