Estimate: £200–£250

Augustus (27 BC-AD 14), Denarius, 13-14, Lugdunum, laureate head right, rev. Tiberius, laureate, standing right in triumphal quadriga, holding laurel and sceptre, 3.83g (RIC 222; Sear 1638). Very fine (£200-250)

The reverse commemorates the defeat of rebels in Illyria, Dalmatia and Pannonia in 10 BC. Tiberius’ triumph was postponed for three years due to the political consequences of the annihilation of the three Rhine legions, commanded by Quintilius Varus, by the Germans in the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD
