A late 18th. Century cut-steel hilted small-sword, the 84.5cm hollow triangular blade engraved with scrolls and a sun in splendour, cut-steel mounts inset with rivet heads, oval double-shell-guard and knuckle-bow both intricately pierced and decorated en-suite, oval faceted pommel, grip spirally bound with alternate bands of twisted copper wire and steel ribbon and turks-heads, complete with its vellum covered scabbard with top locket middle mount and chape two hanging rings, the top locket faintly dot-engraved in script ‘Langford, 50, Fleet St.’ the blade retaining almost all original burnished finish, the steel mounts now tarnished to a russet colour overall, small old repair to scabbard otherwise good condition £250-300

Thomas Langford is recorded at No. 50, Fleet Street from 1768-1797. He was Warden of the Cutler’s Company in 1776. (the use of dotted script on the locket distinguishes from his father)
