Order of St. John Lifesaving Medal, 2nd type, silver; India General Service 1895-1902, E.VII.R., 1 clasp, Waziristan 1901-2; Africa General Service 1902-56, 2 clasps, Somaliland 1902-04, Jidballi, mounted as worn, second with edge bruising and contact marks, nearly very fine and better (3) £180-220
Order of St. John Lifesaving Medal awarded:
‘For gallant conduct displayed on 4 April 1905 at Dharamshala, Punjab, India during an earthquake that took place there on that day. The heroic named officers and non commissioned officer of the 1st and 7th Gurkha Rifles who, at great difficulty and at imminent risk to their own lives, rescued several of their comrades who were buried under the ruins of the barracks that were destroyed by the first shock felt at 6.15 am.’
