Croix de Guerre, ‘’A’ cypher’; Military Decoration, bilingual, gilt, for long service; Cross of Fire; War Commemorative Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1918, official type, good very fine (lot) £50-70

Henri Camille Michel Smessaert was born in Knesselare, Belgium on 29 December 1886. A Journalist by occupation, he entered the Belgian Army on 1 October 1906.

With named award documents for the Croix de Guerre, dated 16 November 1923; Military Decoration, 2nd Class, dated 11 October 1922 (note: medal is a bilingual post-1951 issue); War Commemorative Medal 1914-18, dated 3 November 1922; Victory Medal 1918, dated 3 November 1922 (no document for the Cross of Fire). Together with an identity card bearing the recipient’s photograph; a postcard group photograph and a framed photograph of the artillery instructor and cadets, dated ‘Louvain 1906’; sold with copied research, including details of the recipient’s service in the Artillery during the Great War.
