James Hamilton came from Ednburgh. He attested for the R.A.M.C. (Territorial Force) on 10 November 1914. Posted to the 2/5th Battalion King’s Own Scottish Borderers in November 1915. Later with the 6th Battalion he was wounded in action and awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field (London Gazette 24 January 1919). Demobilised in February 1919.
