William Foulds was born in Colne, Lancashire and enlisted in the York & Lancaster Regiment as a boy recruit in Dublin in September 1888. Having then attended the Royal Hibernian Military School, he was posted to the 1st Battalion and was embarked for South Africa in December 1899, where he served until taking his discharge at Ingogo in September 1901. By 1911 he was living back in Colne and, having re-enlisted in the 3rd Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment in August 1914, he was discharged in December of the same year; sold with brief career details.
